Mentors

What makes a good Mentor?

An original definition of a Mentor is:

a guide, a teacher, a wise person’. Another dictionary defines a
Mentor as an experienced and trusted counsellor’.

A Mentor Services mentor is all of the above.

An important attribute of a good mentor is the ability to listen effectively. The prospective and existing small business owners who come to us for assistance are generally looking for a friendly, sympathetic hearing from someone they trust and respect. They have asked Mentor Services for help either because they have been refused help elsewhere, don’t believe they can afford professional help or because they simply don’t know where else to go. They are often in a distressed state of mind and view Mentor Services as the last resort - a lifeline.

Mentoring is also teaching – your clients should learn from your knowledge and experience.
